We were suppose to do a case study for the lateral things that have evolve ever since they were created. I chose the topic about Ez-link card.
Ez-link card was used to be merely transportation card.
But as we progress in this society, just within 10 years, the card had evlove many time.
Now, it is not only a transporation card, but it can be use as ATM card, Credit card, and for example Passion card
Passion card , can be use as membership card, ezlink card, and also ATM card.
Conclusion:
After realising this, I realise that the society now is progressing very fast. To know that it was this 10-15 years, ezlink card is invented.

Chicken and Bee
We were asked to think of different ideas of "how can we block the chicken to go to our fance, without making notify out neighbour." And also, "why the bee go to the painting instead of the real rose."
So my goupmate, each thought of 10 ideas. We then accumutlate it together to our mahjong paper.
Some of us even stay back to think of the ideas, and some of us bought back the mahjong paper to improve the visual art.
Conclusion:
Comparing this project with "101 ways of using wood", I think I became more daring in the ideas i think. I have more creative ideas then i first come to Creative thinking class.

Mindset to be Creative
For me to be creative is to see more design from other people in internet, or maybe work in non-optimal timing, so that I can be in total silence to do my work.
After doing the project from "how to be more creative", I get to know more ways of how I can be more creative to do my work. For example, I tried to go to the library around my estate to get more ideas from books.
Toa Payoh Library
.
To be honest, this way of being more creative wasn't that effective for me. I think is quite waste of time, as i need to find the right book, and I am a person more towards visualising, reading book are totally not my kind, and I won't be able to understand fully.
Another way I tried to be creative was to set my mood right. I went to Singapore Art Museum, to let myself to indulge to the atmosphere of art.
Singapore Art Museum at 8Q
This way is much more effective than going to the library. As I said, I am a person more to visualising, looking at other people work,it give me ideas. Letting me to know the difference between my design and other people one. It give me a wider image of what I can improve, and how i should set my standard.
Conclusion:
I think that having this new ways to let me boost my creativity is good. But I still like the way I have, like working in non-optimal timing help me more. Going to museum do help me alot too, but it might need me to waste more time to travel, and is not that convenience. I believe that this new ways will needed soon, as I continue to pursuit my studies in NAFA, but currently I will still like to stick with my old ways.
How To Be More Creative?
For this topic, we were suppose to think of ways and example of how we can be more creative.
After our lecturer explain to us in detail of what we need to do, my group tried to do research on how we can be creative. We use a mahjong paper to write down the possible ways we have find of how to be creative, and we also include some of our own ideas. Our lecturer also suggested us that we should categorise it, so that our visual presentation for our mahjong paper will be good. So my teammate, Jianyong brought back that mahjong paper to improvise the visual presentation for the mahjong paper.
As my team and myself were quite busy for our other assessment, we can hardly meet up for discussion for this project, so we discuss through Whatsapp.
Though for this project we couldnt meet up for discussion, but we still mange to talk things out, and finish what we are suppose to do.
Ideas that have written on the mahjong paper for presentation.
Conclusion:
After doing this project, I believe it really open my mind wider. As i get to know more ways of being creative to do my artwork, not only the ways i know. I believe this ways will help me and teammate too, if we have mind block in the future, we can always seek other ways to have new ideas.Thursday, 8 October 2015
Illustration for 101 ways of using Wood
We were told to illustrate some of the most interesting ways of using the wood. Each one of us that are in my group choose one to illustrate. I decided to illustrate a power outlets that are make of wood.
Concept:
I think if we use wood to make power outlets it will be good. So that it wont be easy to have shock circuit, and is quite unique to use wood than normal plastic for power outlets. Even if it have shock circuit, it wont have the poison acid from the plastic that is harmful to human body.
3 items that break the rules
We were ask to find 3 things around our surrounding that is out of the norm. So my group went to this shop, "Totally Hot Stuffs" to look for our ideas.
1) Utensils
This set of utensils is quite special but not much difference when it comes to usage. Commonly utensils have that smooth metal/plastic for you to hold but this design of utensils have some curvy parts, adding a smiling face on the tip, probably targeted for kids.
2) Table Lamp
Modern table lamps don't have such design anymore, if so, it's quite uncommon. This design reminds me of the electric chair, when you switch it on, it shocks your brain just like how this lamp will light up. It has a really simple design, a straight up metal rod a hold the light bulb, standing on top of the wooden base.
3) Alarm Clock
Who would come up with such fancy design for an alarm clock. A common alarm clock will just have that simple plain design, but this clock is totally different from the rest as it represent a bomb, with different wires going around the actual display of the time. Looks like a bomb that will surely explode though.
Conclusion:
This are things that we feel are out of the norm, we can hardly see it. The design is really quirky, and very creative. It give us a great impression for it.

5 Things that break the rules
This design is really quirky, it make people feel like biting it. It's little man let people to have attention to it. And this giant chocolate, will make the passengers feel hungry.
This design is really cool and unique. It seem like the building was being cut into two pieces. Is fascinating ideas and bold. Out of a normal way, how billboard should be like.
A design that is out of the box literally. This coca-cola advertisement is really a awesome way how they promote their motto, "refresh on the coca-cola side of life". Drinking it, even though you are taking photo shoot for poster.
I love this design that make it so realistic. It caught people attention easily, and can fool people with the liquid that seem to been pouring out.
This design is really cool, is a real thing that was displayed out. It give people the clear awareness, and definitely it will caught your attention.

101 Ways of using WOOD
In our class exercise, we were ask to think of 101 ways to the topics we were given from our lecturer.
My group was about ways of using wood. At first we wrote down all our ideas on a A4 paper, then we transfer it to our major paper.
It wasnt as easy as I thought it will be, as there are lots of things that have been made using wood.
My group tried our best to list down everything we could think of, and we manage to have about 60 things that is made of wood. But the things we thought of wasnt that creative enough.

WEEK 2 Exercise
On the second week of class, we were ask to break the routine we normally do. So, in order to do that i tried to woke early in the morning to do my 3D fundamental homework. Which normally i will do it at night, after dinner time, and often i finish it till very late in night.
Sometime, when i have spare time before I go school, I will walk down 1 to 2 bus stop away from the bus stop I normally take. To enjoy the fresh air and silence in the estate.
Normally after school, I will take bus home, which takes about 30 min. But for this exercise, I tried to take train home. Benefits of taking train, i think is I will guarantee have a seat in the train, but it takes a lot longer than taking bus. As in I still have to take bus after alighting from the train station.
When I reached home, I will have my lunch or dinner first. Normally, I will eat my lunch or dinner with soft drink, like poka green tea. But this time, I tried to drink hot tea with my meal. Something rare, but it make me feel more healthy.
I love to have snack or cup noodle at night for supper, but it really make me gain weight and is not digesting very well. So i took this opportunity, to tried eat fruits instead. Thank goodness that my mum prepared nice fruits for me.

1 hour Journey
I was required to have a silence journey alone for 1 hour, without using my phone or listening music. So I decided to have my journey around my estate, Toa Payoh, around evening time.
As I started walking, I passby my favorite night market that I always go to, with my family and church friends.
Whenever I walk pass here, i would not bother to see the whole structure of this market. But this day, I realised the appearance of this market look bigger than what I normally see inside.I continued to walk toward Toa Payoh Central after that, then I saw the traffic road that I always walk a crosss.
Almost everytime when I cross the road, I am listening to my music. So I never really realise, how noisy it was in this road.
After walking pass Toa Payoh Central, I went a cross to Toa Payoh Stadium, that I rarely go in my daily life. I went to the overhead bridge near to the outdoor stadium.
I didnt realise Toa Payoh Stadium was that big, as I dont always go there.
So when I was at the overhead bridge, I saw a beautiful sunset there.
I never knew that, I would be able to see this kind of scenery in Toa Payoh. As I always think Toa Payoh is kind of like ulu place that have nothing much.
So, after walking around Toa Payoh, I realised there are still alot places that I am still not familiarise with. The shops or cafe that I have yet to see and eat, the history of ToaPayoh that I have yet to know. I am quite thankful, that I got this chance to look around ToaPayoh, and know some of the cafe here and building that did not get to know it exisit.
Relationship between play and creativity
I believe play and creativity are related. As we were all being expose to learn different shapes and colours since young.
Colourful colours to catch our attention, different shapes for us to explore when we are young.
The design for playground are also example for us to see.
Toa Payoh Dragon Playground |
This are some examples, how playgrounds were designed to let kids to expose to different architect, they dont usually see, and also to make them to have more creative imagination.
Illustration for board game
When we play, we will always play things that caught our eyes. Why do people play board game? I believe the main reason are because it is interesting. The idea of board game is creative, the design for it is nice or cool.Example:
Conclusion
Most of the time we play this things, are because it is interesting, creative and it got our attention. If the things we play are not as creative as it is now, we might not be interested with it at all. So my conclusion are, creativity and play cant be separated
